Friday's Player of the Day: Mason Katz

State College went down to defeat at Jamestown Friday evening in the first game of their play-off series.

Results from games played Friday, September 6.

Jamestown 6 vs. State College 5

Starter Nick Petree lasted just three innings as host Jamestown took down State College 6-5 in game one of the New York-Penn League play-offs.

Petree (L, 0-1) coughed up six runs, including a three-run bomb in the first, on nine hits and a base-on-balls. Petree threw a wild pitch and struck out one. Kevin Herget fanned three in three frames, yielding two hits but not issuing a free pass. Jhonny Polanco walked two over two with two strikeouts.

Kept off the board through five by the Jammers' starter, the Spikes exploded for five in the sixth off the bullpen. All of the visitors' tallies came with two outs. Carson Kelly got it started when he singled home Steven Ramos (double). An even bigger blow was a three-run double by Mason Katz that plated David Washington (walk), Kelly and Michael Schulze (walk). Jimmy Bosco doubled in Katz for the final run. That was it for State College as only one of the next 11 batters reached base.

Ramos and Katz both singled and doubled while touching home once. Katz, our Player of the Day, knocked in three. Luke Voit singled twice in four at bats as the only other Spike with more than one hit.

Saturday's game: vs. Jamestown, 7:35 pm ET, Jimmy Reed (0-0, ---).
