Hector Sanchez Continues Huge Winter

Is this the Giants' catcher of the future?

In today's Winter Ball Roundup: Matos gets an undeserved blown save in the DR. Graham's stock continues to rise in the MWL. Sanchez goes long in Venezuela -- again.

Games played Sunday, November 27.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE

Osiris Matos picked up his first blown save and his second win Sunday for the Toros del Este. Matos got touched for two hits in 1.2 innings. Seems strange to get stuck with a blown save without giving up any runs; but, hey, the save statistic is a bit odd in and of itself. Matos dropped his ERA to 1.20 in 15 appearances.

Juan Perez went 1-for-5 with a run and a strikeout on Sunday. Perez was hitting again from the leadoff spot while playing left field for the Aguilas Cibaenas. The 25-year-old native of Santiago is hitting .308 (36-for-117) for the winter.

MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE

Tyler Graham took his hit streak to eight games Sunday, going 1-for-3 with a run and a strikeout and raising his average to .277 (48-for-173) for the Tomateros de Culiacan.

VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE

This just in: Hector Sanchez can rake. The 22-year-old backstop went 2-for-3 with a three-run jack and a walk Sunday for the Tiburones de La Guaira. Hector has hit safely in six straight games and in 11 of his last 12. For the month of November, Sanchez has been held hitless just twice, and is hitting at a clip of .386 (34-for-88) with five doubles and five homers. If Hector keeps hitting like this, the Giants may need to move Posey to first base much sooner than expected.

Jean Machi faced one batter Sunday for the Navegantes del Magallanes. He struck him out. Machi continues to be unhittable in the VWL, dropping his ERA to 1.56.
