Contract Details:
Signed a one year, $800,000 contract on December 5, 2005.

2006: $800,000

*Cruz would earn an additional $50,000 for playing 120 games and $50,000 each for 300 and 350 plate appearances.

Became a Cardinal:
Signed as a free agent on December 5, 2005.

2005 Season:
Cruz began the season with San Francisco before being dealt to the Nationals prior to the trade deadline. He batted .268 with five home runs and 19 RBI in 81 games for the Giants, and .255 with one RBI in 20 games for Washington. He made just four errors, appearing at second base, third base and shortstop.

Career Notes:
Cruz is a .269 career batter, with his best season coming in 2000 as a Detroit Tiger when he batted .302 with 10 home runs, 82 RBI and ranked third in the American League with 46 doubles. Cruz has hit 70 career home runs, including 14 round-trippers with Baltimore in 2003 and 13 with the Tigers in 1999.

Deivi was orginally signed out of the Dominican Republic by the San Francisco Giants in 1993, but was taken by the Dodgers in the 1996 Rule 5 draft and traded to the Detroit Tigers on the same day along with Juan Hernaiz for Jeff Berblinger. He has also spent time in the majors with San Diego, Baltimore, Tampa Bay, San Francisco and Washington.
