Fresno Grizzlies: No Game Scheduled
After splitting their four game series against Omaha, the Grizzlies had the day off. Fresno returns home tonight to take on Salt Lake at 7:05 p.m. PT.
Connecticut Defenders: Binghamton 9, Connecticut 4 (Click to see box score)
Lines of the day:
1B Travis Ishikawa – 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B (2), 1 SO
SS Mark Minicozzi – 3-5, 1 R, 3 2B (7), 1 E (2)
RF Brian Horwitz – 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR (2), 1 RBI (9)
CF John Bowker – 1-3, 2 RBI (16), 1 SO
2B Jake Wald – 2-2, 1 2B (8)
SP Nick Pereira – 7 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 1 HBP, L (1-4)
For six innings Nick Pereira was in control on the mound. Unfortunately he had one awful inning that proved to be the decisive blow in Connecticut’s 9-4 loss. Pereira (1-4) was tagged for four runs in the fourth as Binghamton took the lead for good, 4-1.
The Defenders went ahead 1-0 in the first when Mark Minicozzi doubled to left, and later came in to score on John Bowker’s sac-fly. Minicozzi had a huge day at the plate with three doubles. Brian Horwitz clubbed his second homer of the year, a solo shot in the eighth. Travis Ishikawa had a pair of hits, including his second double of the season. Five of Connecticut’s 13 hits offensively were doubles.
San Jose Giants: Modesto 5, San Jose 0 (Click to see box score)
Lines of the day:
3B Anthony Contreras – 1-4, 1 SO
CF Antoan Richardson – 1-4, 1 SO
2B Bradley Boyer – 1-3, 1 SO
RF Michael Mooney – 1-2, 1 2B (10), 1 BB
LF Alex Requena – 1-3
SP Gregorio Martinez – 5.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HBP, L (3-1)
RP Wayne Foltin – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
San Jose’s offense was completely shut down by Modesto starter Brandon Hynick in a 5-0 defeat. Gregorio Martinez (3-1) breezed through the first five innings before Modesto roughed him up for three runs in the sixth, to take a comfortable 4-0 lead. The way that Hynick (6-0) was throwing that was more than enough run support.
San Jose looked as though they were going to get on the board in the third. Following a double by Michael Mooney, Bradley Boyer singled and Mooney tried to score, but was thrown out at the plate. Mooney’s double was the only extra-base hit for San Jose on the night. Wayne Foltin pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
