San Jose Giants: Game 1 - Rancho Cucamonga 6, San Jose 4, 7 innings (Click to see Box Score)
Game 2 - Rancho Cucamonga 2, San Jose 1, 7 innings (Click to see box score)
San Jose blew a three-run lead and dropped the opening game of a doubleheader. They took advantage of bad pitching in the third inning by getting runners on the walk and hit by pitch and scored two runs by drawing bases loaded walks. The Giants could not hold on to the game, allowing six runs to score with a five-run fifth inning for Rancho Cucamonga.
Giants pitchers picked off three Rancho Cucamonga runners but had little else going for right. Starter Yosandy Inbanez had two of the pickoffs but allowed five runs in 4.2 innings including a home run.
Line of the day: Antoan Richardson - 0-1, 1 R, 1 RBI (2), 3 BB, 1 SB (5), 1 CS (3),
Sloppy baseball marred the second game of the doubleheader in San Jose. The teams played two seven inning games to make up for the rain out yesterday. Quakes starter Brok Butcher gave the Giants little to work with, pitching a complete game where he allowed one run to score.
Joe Martinez struck out seven batters and kept the Giants in the game until the sixth inning when Rancho Cucamonga scored an unearned run to take the lead. Barry Gunther scored the lone San Jose run to tie the game in the third inning.
Line of the day: Joe Martinez - 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO, L (1-1)
