The Waikiki BeachBoys defeated the Honolulu Sharks on Tuesday night 4-3 at Honolulu’s Les Murakami Stadium.
Nate Schierholtz went 0-5 with two groundouts, a flyout to deepest right, and two strikeouts, the first on three consecutive curveballs at his feet. He made a pair of excellent throws to his cutoff man, halting a runner trying to score and another on his way to third.
Mark Minicozzi was the consummate professional, going 1-3 with a line drive up the box and a well-wrought walk on a full count. He made a spectacular play on an Astroturf bouncer in the hole, lunging, spinning, and throwing to get the runner by a stepand reminding all in the stands of former Cardinal great Tommy Herr. He scored the game’s winning run.
Lefty David Quinowski came in to pitch the seventh. He retired the first hitter on an excellent 1-2 slider away, broke the bat of the next on a fastball in, and struck out the third on three pitches for a clean inning.
Brian Anderson did not pitch.
