Fassero Signed
San Francisco Giants' Jeff Fassero winds up against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first inning Tuesd

Posted Oct 28, 2005

A day after the Giants found out 5 players would be staying for 2006, they shore up the bullpen even further, by returning the old lefty who was a long reliever and spot starter for the ’05 team.

The San Francisco Giants resigned reliever Jeff Fassero on Friday, coming to terms on a one year $750,000 contract with performance bonuses.

Fassero, a lefty who filled roles both as a long reliever and spot starter, was an underrated member of the bullpen in 2005. He posted a 4.05 ERA over 48 appearances for the Giants, with a 4-7 record. Although he struggled a bit when he started (6.43 ERA over 6 starts), he took the ball when he was called upon to do so and helped both a struggling bullpen and rotation all year. As a reliever, he had a 3.00 ERA.

Fassero, who turns 43 in January, will be in his 16th season as a major leaguer in 2006. He has pitched for the Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks and Giants over his career. He is 7th amongst active left-handers with 710 career appearances.
