Al Levine requested his unconditional release from the Giants, and it was granted. Levine, a non-roster invitee, had played exclusively in the AL during his 8 year career. Levine had gone unscored upon in 9 outings this spring for the Giants, but a crowded bullpen picture made the likelihood of him making the 25 man roster unlikely, which probably motivated the request. Several teams could be interested in picking him up before the season begins.
The most intriguing end of these transactions is Franklin’s release, which opens up a spot on the 40 man roster. Of the major players remaining in the battle for big league roster spots, 2 are not on the 40 man roster currently: Brian Dallimore and Jeff Fassero. Fassero has an option in his deal to be released if he does not make the major league squad. Giants fans can expect to see one of these two players be added to the 40 man roster, and possibly the big league team, in the coming week.
