The San Francisco Giants have re-signed Alberto Castillo to a one-year contract in 2004.
Castillo is an 11-year Major League veteran. In 2003, he played in 11 games when Benito Santiago was on the disabled list. Castillo hit .188, maintaining a .224 career average. He continues to excel defensively with a .990 career fielding percentage and 20 errors over 1,921 chances.
Yorvit Torrealba, who hit .260 with 29 RBIs in 2003, is expected to be the starter for the 2004 season, Therefore lessening Benito Santiago’s chances at returning to the San Francisco Giants.
