Giants turndown Cruz's option

The Giants continue their rebuilding of the team as they decline outfielder Jose Cruz Jr's option for the 2004 season.

Despite playing brilliantly in right field during the season, the San Francisco Giants have declined Jose Cruz Jr.'s $4 million option for the 2004 season. Cruz will receive $300,000 in the buyout. With money now being a very significant issue in the building of the team, as they are trying to lower their $85 million butdget.

Cruz batted .250 with 20 homers and driving in 68 runs in 151 games in his 2003 season. He recorded 18 outfield assists as he shined in the right field. He is in the running for the Gold Glove. Though, one of the last memories Giants fans will have of Cruz was in Game 3 in the NLDS, when Cruz dropped a fly ball, helping the Marlins in achieving a 4-3 victory in the game.
