In the top of the 1st, Luis Castillo led off the game with a single for his Florida Marlins. Luckily for Dustin Hermanson and the Giants, he was caught trying to steal second. But Juan Pierre, the next batter, belted a double to deep left-center, and made it to third on a throwing error by Giants left fielder Todd Linden. Mike Lowell grounded out to drive Pierre, giving the Marlins an early 1-0 edge.
In the bottom of the 3rd, the last part of the Giants lineup took action. Jeffrey Hammonds lead off with a solo blast to tie the game up, and Yorvit Torrealba hit a single. Hermanson sacrificed Torrealba over to second, and another single by Eric Young drove in Torrealba, giving the Giants a 2-1 edge.
A one-out solo shot by Juan Encarnacion in the top of the 4th tied it up at 2.
Neither team scored until the bottom of the 8th, when Torrealba led off with a single. Two outs later, he stole his first base of the season. Neifi Perez drove him in with a double.
The Giants won the game by a final score of 3-2, making it their 5th consecutive win.
SFDugout.com's Player of the Game: Yorvit Torrealba. Not known for speed, he stole his first base of the year at a very important point in the game. He also scored 2 of the Giants 3 runs. If it wasn't for him, they would have lost! Jim Brower gets an honorable mention. The Giants owe him so much. They don't have the best starters, especially not recently, and since Brower is able to go about 2-3 innings, he really saves the rest of the relief staff from working much at all.
