--LHP Eric Surkamp had yet another solid outing, allowing just two runs -- both of them on a homer off the bat of Shelley Duncan. The 24-year-old, who Giants beat writer Henry Schulman says has established himself as the “sixth starter,” went five innings, allowing just the two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three.
--SS Brandon Crawford led off the third with a solid single back up the middle. Crawford advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored the first run of the game on a base hit to left by Chris Stewart.
--C Buster Posey showed that excellent opposite-field approach of his on a single with one out in the fourth frame. Posey added a line-shot single in the top of the sixth frame, and finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored.
--IB Brett Pill blasted a three-run bomb on the first pitch he saw in the fourth inning. It was Pill’s second homer of the spring.
--C Hector Sanchez went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored after coming in to replace Chris Stewart in the sixth inning.
--3B Pablo Sandoval has yet to get anything started with the bat, going hitless in four tries with a strikeout Wednesday.
The Giants head to Salt River Fields to take on the Rockies. The Giants send ace Tim Lincecum (2-0, 4.50 ERA, 10 SO) to the hill against the ageless one, Jamie Moyer (1-0, 1.80 ERA, 3 SO).
