--LHP Eric Surkamp had another solid outing, going four strong and allowing just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four. The one run Surkamp allowed was on a homer to the slugging prospect Anthony Rizzo.
--C Buster Posey collected his second hit of the spring, a line-drive single to lead off the second inning.
--The Giants scored a two runs in the top of the fourth, on a walk from Melky Cabrera, a single from Pablo Sandoval and a throwing error from the Cubs. Aubrey Huff brought Sandoval home for the second run, on an RBI single.
--IF Emmanuel Burriss smoked a pinch-hit ground-rule double with one out in the fifth inning.
--RHP Clay Hensley and C Eli Whiteside executed a beautiful strike-em-out throw-em-out double play with nobody out in the sixth. Anthony Rizzo, after advancing to second on the previous caught stealing, himself got gunned down by Whiteside while trying to swipe third base.
--IF Emmanuel Burriss collected his second hit in as many at bats on a line-drive single in the eighth frame. Burriss promptly swiped second without much trouble, and later came around to score the Giants’ third run on a throwing error.
--OF Gregor Blanco was held in check for the first time in a while, going hitless in three trips to the plate, including a strikeout.
--OF Nate Schierholtz, IF Ryan Theriot and IF Mike Fontenot -- the bottom of the order Friday for the Giants -- went a combined 0-for-9 with three strikeouts.
The Giants will have a split squad on Saturday. Tim Lincecum (1-0, 6.75 ERA) will take the bump in Scottsdale Stadium against Tom Milone (1-0, 3.12 ERA) and the A’s. Lefty Brian Burres (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will lead the road team to Camelback Ranch to face off against Aaron Harang (1-0, 5.40 ERA) and the Dodgers.
