Once again a LHP and a slugging catcher lead the Giants to victory -- this time it was Eric Surkamp and Hector Sanchez, though. Final Score: Giants 7, Mariners 5.

--LHP Eric Surkamp had yet another solid outing for a Giants starting pitcher, going three strong and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three.

--C Buster Posey caught four innings and got two at-bats, going hitless.

--OF Gregor Blanco and IF Emmanuel Burriss executed a textbook hit-and-run in the third inning.

--RHP Brian Wilson made his spring training debut, needing just nine pitches to retire the Mariners in the fourth inning. The inning ended on a flawless strike-em-out throw-em-out double play from Wilson and Buster Posey.

--Blanco and Burriss proved a quality combination again in the fifth, with both singling and stealing a bag. Both also came around to score in the inning.

--Giants beat writer Henry Schulman had this to say about the impression Blanco has made so far this spring:

If Gregor Blanco is not on the Giants' 25-man roster to start the season, I'm a monkey's uncle. (In advance, shaddup!)

--C Chris Stewart smoked a double to left to lead off the bottom of the sixth.

--C Hector Sanchez hit a mammoth pinch-hit two-run jack in the last of the sixth, giving the G-Men a 6-1 lead. Hector added a solo shot in the eighth, giving him a homer from both sides of the plate. The 22-year-old finished the day 2-for-2 with the two homers, two runs and three RBI.

--LHP Jeremy Affeldt and LHP Javier Lopez pitched an inning of scoreless relief each, with Affeldt striking out one and Lopez allowing two hits.

--OF Gary Brown got picked off to end a rally in the fifth, after being brought in as a pinch runner. Brown later struck out in his one plate appearance for the day.

--IF Brandon Belt went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

--The Giants were a little sloppy on defense, with throwing errors from Joaquin Arias, Chris Stewart and Emmanuel Burriss.

--RHP Clay Hensley got touched up for two runs on two hits before retiring the Mariners in his one inning of work.

Tim Lincecum (0-0, 13.50 ERA) will take the bump for the Giants as they head to Surprise to take on Luke Hochevar (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and the Royals.
