Right handed pitcher Greg Bruso
, of the San Jose Giants, has been named California League Pitcher of the Week (May 26th – June 1st). On Friday, May 30th, in a game against the High Desert Mavericks (Milwaukee Brewers Affiliate), Bruso pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing only three hits and one walk while striking out seven. During the game, he only allowed one High Desert Maverick runner past first base. This was his fifth consecutive win of the season.
He currently leads the California League in ERA with a 2.53. Throughout this season, opposing hitters have been hitting .202 AVG against him. He has pitched 64 innings – leading the team in innings pitched – and has a 59-9 strikeout to walk ratio.
Bruso was drafted in the 16th round in 2002 during the First Year Player draft, by the San Francisco Giants. In 2002, he was with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and had a 1.99 ERA (18 ER/81 IP) - leading the league.
