ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE - Scottsdale 10, Surprise 6
Brandon Crawford wasted no time in extending his hitting streak to 12 games on Thursday, smoking a ground-rule double in his first AB. Unfortunately Crawford didn't get another hit, and finished the day 1-for-5 with a run scored. Brandon's .310 (18-for-58) average is still fourth best for the talent-rich Scorpions.
Going 4-for-5 with a double was the red-hot Joe Panik. Joe has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games and has seen his average climb up to .295 (18-for-61) on the fall campaign.
Panik and Crawford -- perhaps the middle infield combo for the big club some day -- also connected for two nice double plays in the field.
Austin Fleet recovered nicely from his rocky outing on Monday, in which he gave up three runs on four hits in just one inning of work. On Thursday, Fleet hurled two innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit and a walk, while striking out a batter. The solid outing brought Fleet's ERA back down to an even 3.00.
Stephen Harrold also got two innings of work for the Scorps on Thursday, and also did not allow a run. Harrold allowed just one hit, collected a strikeout, and lowered his ERA to 2.19 for the year.
DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE
The DWL had the night off on Thursday, nothing to report.
MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE
Tyler Graham went 1-for-5 with a strikeout on Thursday. He's now hitting .279 (24-for-86) for the Tomateros de Culiacan.
VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE
Hector Sanchez had an off night on Thursday while doing the catching for the Tiburones de La Guaira -- he only managed one hit in four trips to the plate. With the way the 21-year-old has been hitting lately, anything less than a multi-hit game just doesn't seem acceptable. Hector's average plummeted all the way down to .424 (14-for-33).
All kidding aside, it was great to see Hector behind the dish for the first time in a while, and back in the cleanup spot as well.
Max Ramirez hit seventh while handling the DHing duties for the Bravos de Margarita Thursday. Max had a great night, going 2-for-4 with a two-run bomb -- his second homer of the winter -- and a strikeout. For the season, the Venezuela native is hitting .263 (15-for-57).
