ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE - Scottsdale 8, Mesa 7
The Scorpions got a win in dramatic fashion Thursday. Trailing 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, the Scorps got singles from Mike Trout of the Angels and Boston Red Sox prospect Will Middlebrooks. Jean Segura, also of the Angels, grounded into a fielder's choice, bringing the highly-touted Bryce Harper of the Nationals to the plate with two on and one out. The 19-year-old outfielder took a 3-1 pitch over the wall in right-center for a walk-off three-run bomb. Almost as exciting as that World Series game. Almost.
Giants position players, unfortunately, had very little to do with the win.
Top prospect Gary Brown was out of the lineup yet again on Thursday. The 23-year-old has not played
since Saturday -- coincidentally enough, the speedy outfielder went to a Taylor
Swift concert later that night. Perhaps Gary is still recovering. I mean, those Swifties know how to rage. Just joking, Gary.
Brandon Crawford -- another confirmed Swifty -- also got a rest on Thursday. Kids these days.
Joe Panik hit seventh and played second base for the Scorps. The infielder went 0-for-3 with a walk, lowering his average to .227 (10-for-44).
The dramatic win for the Scorps wouldn't have been possible without strong Giants pitching, however.
Austin Fleet continues to shut down opposing hitters, as he pitched a scoreless inning giving up just one hit -- a bunt single at that -- and striking out one. Fleet lowered his AFL ERA to a tidy 1.00.
Stephen Harrold needed just 10 pitches to dispatch Mesa in the top of the ninth, striking out one and earning his third win (3-0). The 22-year-old right-hander now sports an ERA of 1.93 for the AFL season, with 10 strikeouts and only four walks.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE
The DWL had the day off on Thursday, nothing to report.
MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE
Tyler Graham is heating up for the Tomateros de Culiacan. Tyler followed up a breakout game on Wednesday with an even better one on Thursday, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored, while striking out once. The Oregon State product has raised his average a whopping 66 points since Tuesday. He's now hitting .258 (16-for-62) for the winter.
VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE
Thursday's Tiburones de La Guaira game was postponed.
