Rewind: Giants vs Padres Game #3
Bullpen comes through for Giants
Bullpen comes through for Giants

17 walks in one game. You'd think that at least 4 of them belonged to Barry Bonds. Not this time. This year, Barry Bonds might not be the only one opposing pitchers have to worry about in the Giants lineup.

The Giants swept the Padres in the final game of their first series with a score of 5-3.

Giants starter, Damian Moss, pitched well the first few innings, but eventually started to lose his control. Moss pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 hits, three runs (two earned), and walking six. With the brilliant performance of the bullpen, the Giants were able to keep the Padres from catching up.

The theme of this game seemed to be walks, as their were 17 walks throughout the entire game. Eight of these walks came from the Padres pitchers. Yet, strangely enough, not one belonged to Barry Bonds. Instead, Edgardo Alfonzo got the most walks tonight, producing three.

The Giants were able to go deep in the count, making Padres starter, Oliver Perez, really work. Perez lasted only four innings, walking six and giving up five runs on four hits.

In the third inning, Rich Aurilia hit an RBI double, which scored Jose Cruz Jr. all the way from first. He would walk the next two batters and walk JT Snow, which would force in a run. Marquis Grissom would then come up to the plate and hit a three-run double that was nearly caught, but dropped by Xavier Nady. These would be the only runs for the Giants.

Tim Worrell acted as closer tonight. With runners at the corners, Worrell struck out Sean Burroughs and got his second save of the season.

Player of the Game: Actually, more like players of the game. The Bullpen: Joe Nathan, Scott Eyre, Felix Rodriguez, and Tim Worrell. Sure, they got into some stessful situations, but somehow, someway, they got out of it.
